Ahhhh Skomaro. Initially I remembered this band as the one with the best Jeromes Dream cover on the 'It's More Like An Homage To You' tape compilation (order here),  but after meeting KOMAROV in Croatia, seeing them there (linked here) and again in Germany at CMAR, I just recall five humble and hilarious Brits who told me they love Battle Of Wolf 359.

In 2016 KOMAROV released 'Winter 15/16' on cassette. It begins with "lv", which opens with an eerie audio clip before the drums and bass lead the rest of the band into song, with everyone being in the picture by the one-minute mark. By 1:40 the band goes ballistic and shreds through the remaining minute in a dark, menacing and screamy shroud of hardcore and black-metal. "ii" is probably my favourite KOMAROV song. This thing is pummeling from the get-go, but that breakdown at 30 seconds is unbelievable, and seeing it live at Cry Me A River Fest 2017 was awesome (linked here). The jammy slowdown gets back to full speed before the one-minute mark and transitions to a an awesome, epic outro with some sick dual vocals. At this point I'd say good comparisons are Saligia and Tentacles. Closer "0" starts like an Old Man Gloom song, pushing the decibel limit with an onslaught of noise and, perhaps, the ultimate power of evil? Sure, why not. This is followed by lightning quick drums and some seriously intense screamo/black-metal section beginning at two minutes that gets slow, sludgy and builds to a crushing finale at 3:52.

2017's 'Komarov' cassette EP continues the Battle Of Wolf 359 love but has much better production and a thicker, heavier sound that makes the songs so much more dense and intense. "I" opens with a Matthew Mcconaughey audio clip which is followed by military snare drum hits and reaches full stride just before 1:20, while going the extra mile from 1:45 onward. "II" is the best track and smacks you around for a little bit, then lulls you into a false sense of security before ripping you to shreds right at the two minute mark. "III" is the mammoth of this release, clocking in at 8:36 and opening much like Angel Eyes and late-era Buried Inside with slow, brooding, atmospheric post-rock/post-hardcore before unleashing the beast at 2:11 with prodigious, heaving movements of a death-black storm. At 2:50 the lightning strikes and by four minutes the thunder has been unleashed, epic and devastating, until the six-minute mark when the storm exhausts itself and evaporates.

I've been told that KOMAROV is writing and hopefully recording in 2018 so hopefully Zegema Beach and this blog will have a hand in that :)
