THE SOUTH were a band I stumbled across while purchasing everything I could from The Perpetual Motion Machine label back in the mid 2000s. They played a dirty, loose and screamy hardcore style not far from Hugs, Occam's Razor and Bravo Fucking Bravo. The instrumentals are nothing mindblowing but when combined with the cacophony of screaming everything just sits right. The best song they ever wrote (that I've heard) is "Boxing for Courbet" from the 'Hypatia split' LP that sounds much akin to Mesa Verde. The song that was the catalyst for this post is called "D is for Desruct-Icon" from the 'Sic Pits Bro Sesh' 7" that I picked up about a decade ago. The song is quite reminiscent of bands such as Twelve Hour Turn and Khayembii Communique. I finally got my ears wrapped around the 'Chomp Chomp Chomp' 12"LP and after a few listens I can say that it's among their best work. The screaming is at its most raw and I absolutely love the inclusion of audio clips from documentaries that really help the political messages in the songs hit home.

ReplyDeleteAmazing thank you so much!!!
DeletePacific was after chomp but before sick pits. I loved in St. Augustine while they were kicking. Went on a few short tours with them too. Really awesome guys. Their other bands are solid too. Two of the guys are restraunteurs now.
