*** PODCAST #168 Hillsboro pt.2 ***

As the dust settles from the new HILLSBORO ep 'White Trash' I figured it was time to bring my friends Nima and Dexter back on for a sequel podcast! Dexter plays violin in the band, while Nima sings and plays guitar as well as spends time in a band with me called Wollruss. We speak about a plethora of ridiculous things including (but certainly not limited to): post-tour blues, Oliver and the constant chill, recording the next album, racks falling on people, Nima the Wild Man, guitars can be spears, the screamo ladder, "are we getting serial-killed tonight?", improper drumkit etiquette, spirits inhabiting tuners, good shoegaze characteristics, the dissolving of genres, screamo incubation, Play Dead Records, etc. Bands played in this podcast: All Done Bye Bye, Urika's Bedroom, and Who Calls So Loud. Listen to podcast #168 which is available to stream and/or download for free via this link.

*** PODCAST #167 Henning (Återstod, Suis La Lune, Sore Eyelids) ***

Henning Runolf has been indirectly in my life for over two decades and I've been in touch with him for the latter of two, so when he hit me up a few months back with a brand spankin' new project for me to help release (Återstod), I figured it was high time to get him on the podcast. He has spent time in a plethora of bands including (but not limited to): Återstod, Suis La Lune, Trembling Hands, Sore Eyelids, New Decade, left in-between, Mixtapes & Cellmates, etc. and has an amazing/unique style of writing that comes across in all of his bands. We discussed some of those bands as well as: falling in love with KISS, sounding old as shit, tiny radars, pop vs. screamo, the Trachimbrod/Sore Eyelids split, coming to the USA for the first time, obscure EPs, Henning's new screamo project Återstod, Dave butchers band names, Japanese shoegaze, underrated German emo-violence, etc. Bands played in this podcast: The Bear Quartet, Julie, Lachance, Plastic Trees, Storm The Bastille, and Trachimbrod. Listen to podcast #167 which is available to stream and/or download for free via this link.

*** NINE NECKS exclusive song premiere ***

NINE NECKS
"Laid to Rest"
exclusive song premiere
For fans of
HorsewhipLockslip, Terror Cell and The Minor Times

NINE NECKS are a heavy post-hardcore/metallic hardcore band with a fresh coat of screaming. Active in Los Angeles though all of the members originally hail from Chicago and were active in that scene in the early 2000s, I am ecstatic to bring you their first single from the upcoming EP which was produced by Alex Estrada (Touche Amore, Joyce Manor) at Pale Moon Ranch. It releases spring 2025, featuring Dan Rees, Joe Hunt, along with brothers Patrick and Matt Bellanger rounding out this quartet of destruction. Jam that shit below, it fucking slaps.

(2024) NINE NECKS "Laid to Rest"

Beginning with dissonant guitars, cymbals, and screaming, the song toys with the listener for the first 30 seconds before absolutely laying waste to the listener. The instrumentals begin to bounce and the vocals slip down to a deeper level of hell, making the bombastic display of metallic hardcore all that much more devastating. Fuck to the yes.

*** PODCAST #166 Rex Kwon Do ***

After hearing REX KWON DO's demo EP I shit my pants. So messy. After changing I asked the group of six if they'd be interested in coming on the podcast...and here we are. These guys literally killed that demo and I cannot wait to see what this new material sounds like. A few topics touched upon in this podcast: seven people on one call is a lot of people, stealing Diego's laptop, Neil Perry cover, Tinder for bandmates, dropbox full of bangers, Dr. Pepper as a recording tool, new material, breakdown bomb blowin' speakers, best albums of 2024, Gxllium! ruins brains, etc. Bands played in this podcast: A Black Rose Burial, As Blood Runs Black, Far From Forgiven, Foundations, The Jacka, Loftus, and Roy Blair. Listen to podcast #166 which is available to stream and/or download for free via this link.

My friend Artemy from Lucidity/Smile To The Wind fame recently sent me this album and it made my fucking jaw drop...just like today's USA election results. Said results have put my mental state into disarray and the only remedy I can think of right now is listening to something as livid as I am. Enter HOARI. Their debut EP consists of six absolutely devastating chaotic hardcore tracks that'll have you smacking your own head on the table over and over again, thus hopefully knocking out the memory of Trump becoming a U.S. dictator (at least for a few seconds).

The songs mildly resemble stuff heard in Euglena as they share at least one member, which means the songs are fast, chaotic, change direction quickly, and straight up fucking slay. Opener "26.17.1.4.1" isn't the best track to get acquainted with the band as it serves as an eerie instrumental introduction to the chaos that ensues upon starting "Обретение". This second track wastes no time in letting you know that they ain't fucking around, with wild, frantic, and unrestrained instrumentals paired with dual screaming from some of sickest vocalists around. "Гвозди Гнева" is 1:19 of unhinged, blackened, chaotic hardcore that rushes violently into "В Объятиях Бездны", another banger but with more instrumental fuckery and flourishes of the obtuse, with a final 30 seconds that will bring your mom to tears. "Единое Целое" deserved it's very own music video (embedded below) and gives me a "Fault and Fracture" by Converge kinda vibe. Closer "Церемония" is by far the lengthiest track (seven minutes and change, almost four minutes longer than any other song) and dips into the darkest aspects of the band, stretching the crushing nightmare out to last all night.

I don't know if they have physicals or more material coming, but I am foaming at the mouth over here.

I've been tight with SENZA since their split days back in 2017 or so. Having seen them live a few times (including ZBR Fest 2019 and 2024) and on the heels of the band's new EP 'Celestial Body' it was high time to chat with my pal Mason (drums). We ran through a bunch of stuff including but not limited to: rocking clarinet & sucking ass at tuba, Tim gets sad, Senza the Melee Band, Peak Beau, the collective shitting of pants, best review ever, upcoming split 7" info, The Caution Children goes atmospheric black metal, pleading with Gxllium!, best breakdown of all time...?, top LPs/EPs of 2024, etc. Bands played in this podcast: Agriculture, Beau Navire, Faraquet, Meet Me In St. Louis, Rex Kwon Do, and Snoras.      Oh shit, it's Halloween. Oops, too late. Ah well. Let's pretend it's still a spooky night though, as perhaps only new Malevich matches this horror, but the debut three-song EP from Australia's ASHOKA'S HELL is a straight up fucking nightmare. These Australian folks come together to tear it all down with vicious, chaotic, unhinged, grindy, screamy, hardcore in the vein of Spain's Crossed and even has the vocal variance to match. "Don't think about it" is an excellent opener and sounds as pissed as you can get. "Fools" is a minute-and-forty-five of madness, fast, unexpected, and unrelenting. Closer "Where rats call home" isn't far from the aforementioned Malevich jam (albeit the shorter/older material), branching out it all directions simultaneously in an absolute onslaught of grindy hardcore with metal-tinged edges. Fuckin' hell, what an utter assault on the senses.

I heard they're recording an LP so hnnnnnngggggggg!
