The (not openly) self-described "hipster black-metal" band Lᴏᴠᴇ/Lᴜsᴛ from Berlin, Germany were a group of four individuals that I met at the Munich Respire show on June 21st, 2017 (show linked here). They were super nice people and after chilling at the Isar River we made our way back to the show and they blew me away. Slightly resembling band such as Locktender, Amber, Old Soul and Respire, their blend of post-rock, black-metal and screamo was incredible.
"Wrapped in bedsheets" begins with a beautiful, spacey, instrumental opening for almost 2:30, reminding me heaps of Amber and Old Soul. When the entire band kicks in directly afterwards they slip back and forth between black-metal speed and post-hardcore epicness. At 8:35 it's a long opener, but holy fuck does it deliver. I love the ambient-yet-still-heavy guitar progressions, the vocalist's occasional yell, scream or shriek (especially that part just before five minutes) as well as the conclusion's Mr. Robot audio clip. "I lie awake" is next and sounds like dark, German hardcore and it's only 4:46 in length, making it the shortest song on the EP by far. Falling more into the Komarov and June Paik sound, it is a dark and pummeling track with a single mesmerizing, pretty, slow bit in the middle and a very black-metal second half. Finale"and drift away" is a massive 11:26. So, you've got 1:10 of a post-rock intro, followed by the band going full throttle from 1:11 to almost the four-minute mark, when they take a placebo chill pill at 4:14 but blast into a sweet section right before five minutes. At 6:20 the build starts again from scratch with a lone guitar plucking some seriously sad notes, followed by distant gang vocals and the climax at 7:51 and subsequent noise outro.
I assume the band is writing for a new release soon, and I, as well as quite a few others, are hella stoked.
