For fans of: Avvika, Amygdala, The Assistant, I Hate Sally, Crestfallen, Under A Sky So Blue, Joshua Fit For Battle, Protestant, Jungbluth, Callow, Cassilis, Zann, To Dream Of Autumn, Alpinist, Trainwreck, Amber and Fall Of Efrafa.
EASY LOVER play moshy, dark and crusty hardcore with deep, anguished screams. The band, especially due to those vocals, remind me of the first two Amber LPs and Avvika but condensed and much, much shorter as don't have the epic instrumental builds. Everything here is devastating on the ground level so no second stories have been created. The only reason I've heard EASY LOVER is because they sent me their link after checking out this blog. Thank science for that.
First off, there's a True Detective quote in "Flying South":
"I consider myself a realist, alright? But in philosophical terms I'm what's called a pessimist. / Umm, okay, what's that mean? / It means I'm bad at parties. / (laughs) Let me tell ya, you ain't good outside of parties, either." Lots of crusty, chugging and bleak instrumental work layered with those gut-wrenching vocals make this a killer song.
But, if I'm being honest "Fire" is the best song, which boasts my favourite line on the EP, "Love is just another religion." This song is so good I've probably jammed it more than 10 times in the last few days, alone. The track really hits its stride at exactly the one-minute mark when they slow it down and bring in that huge Fall Of Efrafa sound.
The final song I'll touch on is "Earth", which sounds like Protestant with more of a European edge that borders more on metallic screamo than the crustier stuff they've recorded. A great song with a really a mix of both female and male vocal shreddery and sludgy/spacey breakdowns.
My primary complaint - it's over too quickly. Not the worst weak point, I must say.
