There was a night in mid-2025 when I stumbled upon both Mieke and MAGE TEARS. After connecting with the former, I soon reached out to the latter and all of sudden both bands were set to play ZBR Fest 2026 in Vancouver! That's pretty nuts as Mieke is from New Zealand and Nicole aka MAGE TEARS is from the UK but is currently residing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Nicole plays soft, gorgeous, honest, whispery, acoustic singer/songwriter in the vein of early Alex G, softer Mieke, and Cozy St. Jean and recently released "The World Stops for a Second" and a song on the 'Hiss 2' compilation. A couple o' things we talked about on the podcast: caps on "amazing", helicopters and tears, the Crywank endorsement, playing Skyrim with Grandad and the Mage Tears origin, the creative process of a song, scared of promotion, Dollanganger praise, a new album!?!?!, the Mieke connection, ZBR Fest 2026, etc. Bands played in this podcast: Alex G, Disassociative Youth, The Loner(s), Othiel, Stephen Brodsky, and Saram12Saram.
