I won't lie, TWO TONGUES is just fun. Being a fan of early Saves The Day and 2006 era Say Anything I was stoked on this release. Both bands have released some pretty garbagey stuff in their time but this collaborative album is worth checking out. Apparently it was said they'd be releasing a second album (in the news in 2012) but as you can see in the discography below nothing has materialized.
The 2009 self titled LP 'Two Tongues' opens with "Crawl" which builds its atmosphere instantly only to tear it apart with a fantastic soft/heavy dynamic that weaves in and out until 47 seconds in and then Chris joins Max in the vocal department and Saves The Day meets Say Anything is very apparent. "If I Could Make You Do Things" is an excellent back and forth vocal song that has the two vocalists exchanging a few syllables back and forth quite quickly and seamlessly. It's playful and fun and gets very pop-punk at the one-minute mark and the chorus that hits at 1:41 and 2:24 is catchy as hell. "Dead Lizard" is the closest thing to Saves The Day as the guitar riff and drums at the beginning could have been lifted from their first record 'Can't Slow Down' as the heaviness factor has been upped and the song is still catchy, but in a dark and eerie way. I don't find the following 8 songs all that interesting, but the closer "Back Against the Wall" is a punk/disco combination that should suck but is one of my favourites on the record. The danciness of this song is undeniable, as cheesy as it may be at times, and brings influences such as Michael Jackson and newer pop to the table.
