I reckon once per month you'll see a post for that kind of stuff, with everything else remaining the same as it's been for the last 12 years.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"> As I continue my immersion into the softer stuff, when I find stuff I really like I put that shit out on my label Softseed Music, which is where this post fits in. After speaking with this artist over the past year I was finally sent their EP in full and was immediately smitten. Five tracks of gorgeous, uplifting, and poppy indie rock that incorporate vocaloid, with today's premiere being the closer of 'Autumn', titled "winter hug". The vocal melody that hits in the chorus is superb. Tapes release March 26th on Softseed Music over two variants and a coupla test dips.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2024)</span> <b>AUTUMN</b> "winter hug" (from '<b>please be happy</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/4pRdZwamZIk" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4pRdZwamZIk" width="320" youtube-src-id="4pRdZwamZIk"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/4pRdZwamZIk</a></div><div><br /></div><div> The songs begins immediately with the opening verse, skipping through the first 36 seconds, after which the first chorus kicks in with the most ethereal and gorgeous vocals I've heard this year. If the verses are like running through a flowery field (and I think they are) then the chorus is like standing atop a mountain slowly spinning arms wide in overwhelming joy. The song hits the verse and chorus twice in a row before moving into the bridge/outro that includes a focus on the instrumentals and features a lone guitar solo followed by minimal keys. So fucking good!</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Dave Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03419463544621551129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1387616612701995522.post-44561230856424046712024-03-12T22:02:00.000-07:002024-03-12T22:02:49.079-07:00*** PODCAST #150 Gxllium! *** <div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRqmnsjFfh5Il1Kbp1sJ7M9ljQlkHLuB0T49RSCRKMGD-EvxPYzBx7X3nx8A4Dfz_fTslM8jEwxIT6M7mWU5SyMpEPH-5CIG-vLG_R80oCLGGKKOHLIZPDcWBKgNzb-5-OYDwcyrDqDW8pXLumidBfmaLi0VjQk_Bx8Ycn9_WlNqzVVeh2Q4zk7ARg/s1400/bandcamp.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1400" data-original-width="1400" height="417" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRqmnsjFfh5Il1Kbp1sJ7M9ljQlkHLuB0T49RSCRKMGD-EvxPYzBx7X3nx8A4Dfz_fTslM8jEwxIT6M7mWU5SyMpEPH-5CIG-vLG_R80oCLGGKKOHLIZPDcWBKgNzb-5-OYDwcyrDqDW8pXLumidBfmaLi0VjQk_Bx8Ycn9_WlNqzVVeh2Q4zk7ARg/w417-h417/bandcamp.png" width="417" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> In December of 2023 California's GXLLIUM! came out swinging and released their debut album followed just two months later by their outstanding '<b>split w/<u>Onewaymirror</u></b>'. Today I've got the latter's new song, still unreleased, that will show up on their next record. I'll let them fill in a few blanks below, then I'll discuss the single.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div> "Constant Visions of Suffering" is the first single from TERROR CELL’s second full length LP '<b>All Quiet</b>' set to release mid-to-late 2024 via Fisher King Records on vinyl as well as cassette and CD in collaboration with Soft Grit Recordings. This jam was engineered by Joey Woodard and mixed/mastered by Adam Cichoocki.</div><div><br /></div><div> Based in the “screamo capitol of the world” Richmond, VA, the band’s sound has been largely influenced from the start by titanic Richmond area groups such as <u>Pageninetnine</u>, <u>Majority Rule</u>, and <u>City of Caterpillar</u>, and '<b>All Quiet</b>' sees these influences significantly dialed up. The album title itself being borrowed from the 1929 anti-war novel “All Quiet On the Western Front”, while far from being a concept album, has consistent overlying themes of the horrors of war, and the grief that accompanies it.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2024)</span> <b>TERROR CELL</b> "Constant Visions of Suffering" (from '<b>All Quiet</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/0UP4Nu34H0M" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0UP4Nu34H0M" width="320" youtube-src-id="0UP4Nu34H0M"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/0UP4Nu34H0M</a></div><div><br /></div><div> The metallic hardcore side of the band is still present, but the screamo elements are definitely creeping in. The song takes its time building the foundation with rolling drums, ethereal guitars, and strained yells before things lurch into what I would describe as chunky, atmospheric black metal with much more of a backbone after 1:30 mark. The subsequent section beings around 2:40 and takes the song from enveloping to homicidal in a heartbeat, bringing to mind mathcore and deathcore bands as well as <u>Meth.</u> and <u>Abuse Repression</u> complete with an ending that nightmares are made of. That's some hot shit, good lord.</div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfTt3ZeEivBMBfRFd_p9noz2hK-SLURvvliyaSA5f9FVXmkF2qAUPFNXUpTX87HgImX4kybQhbWxCg0w-U0zkO9wLC_oMuDB4417-zkn56U2boSnteKhOCl_vXS1HnL-raSyTbqEfxXwDEtcoUOyb1KTcaLXmTaB-3mLi9_RBTHr8J1ouMbKD2ycBR/s1000/429630519_421171737262193_1834113893225303206_n%20(1).jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="800" height="599" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfTt3ZeEivBMBfRFd_p9noz2hK-SLURvvliyaSA5f9FVXmkF2qAUPFNXUpTX87HgImX4kybQhbWxCg0w-U0zkO9wLC_oMuDB4417-zkn56U2boSnteKhOCl_vXS1HnL-raSyTbqEfxXwDEtcoUOyb1KTcaLXmTaB-3mLi9_RBTHr8J1ouMbKD2ycBR/w479-h599/429630519_421171737262193_1834113893225303206_n%20(1).jpg" width="479" /><br /></a></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Dave Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03419463544621551129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1387616612701995522.post-17543042807701699602024-03-10T23:56:00.000-07:002024-03-10T23:56:09.624-07:00*** PODCAST #149 Solvalou ***<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> Being attached to Tomb Tree definitely has some perks, including getting to hear albums way before they come out. As this was the case with Wisconsin's SOLVALOU, the new project featuring members who have spent time in <u>Under A Sky So Blue</u>, <u>Malevich</u>, and <u>Riotnine</u> was one such band that I've been jamming constantly since being sent the masters. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Robert, Cara, Will, and Cleo to discuss their new self-titled EP '<b>Solvalou</b>' as well as: <u>Frail Body</u> > midwest emo, public deaths, the only influence, recording strategies, bootlegged <u>Snag</u> swag, lyrical content, being trans in Alabama, sad dudes not doing well, folk music and screamo, why their new songs might be influenced by <u>Gxllium!</u>, their next split, etc. Bands played in this podcast: <u>Gxllium!</u>, <u>In Reverent Fear</u>, <u>Justin Townes Earle</u>, <u>Signals Midwest</u>, <u>Stranger By Day</u>, and <u>Taking Back Sunday</u>. Quick backstory: Level Plane released all the best screamo back in the 2000s so I followed their catalogue religiously and picked up on these sick, jangly, angular math-rock/post-punk bands. So how, how in the actual <b><i>fuck</i></b>, did I miss THE PLAN? Featuring members of both bands and straight up sounding like them too, this 2023 discovery sent me down a rabbit hole I thought was long swallowed up by the earth.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqRaFzGhDyfocgZdOtHUh55JZp4mWNMgZ8PF5DhQs_c2durodU13QologUc70s3iro9ZXUUebSeG9XM-xRTom3XuvPhPyBbXtvUVZfUdhfRkPZdYouZDSFd2PxT2TzuZ4Dx4IOJ66f3g3DIP5Fu75q80wEzF9az18wKgOS5wQzMBPY7iDKLWuoinZ-/s581/cover.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="581" data-original-width="581" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqRaFzGhDyfocgZdOtHUh55JZp4mWNMgZ8PF5DhQs_c2durodU13QologUc70s3iro9ZXUUebSeG9XM-xRTom3XuvPhPyBbXtvUVZfUdhfRkPZdYouZDSFd2PxT2TzuZ4Dx4IOJ66f3g3DIP5Fu75q80wEzF9az18wKgOS5wQzMBPY7iDKLWuoinZ-/s320/cover.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> In 1999 the band released their debut demo cassette which I tracked down yesterday but won't discuss as all of the songs ended up on the 2000 full length. So '<b>This Time Is Not The Place</b>' is arguably better than the band's final effort, as it boasts tracks like the very <u>North Of America</u>-esque opener "3x3 Lines" (which mixes angular guitars with a most excellent groove), "The Arabesque" (super chill bass-led jam with a killer progression), "Beyond Action and Reaction" (great call and response whilst still being on the darker side), and "I Am All Kinds of Illegal" (quirky and pretty screamy and all-around banger). Seriously this entire album rocks and if you like angular math/indie rock with sometimes sung/yelled/screamed dual vocals you're about to ascend into heaven.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div> At some point in 2000 the band released the awesome two-song 7" that houses "Ante The Essay" and "Give Me The Theory", with the former being one of the bands best songs incorporating excellent dual vocals and a coupla screams amongst the danciness. Also that bass riff is unmistakably amazing. Two of the songs from the 2000 five-song '<b>Demo</b>' didn't end up being rerecorded for the 2001 full length. "The Temporary City" and "How We Make History" are actually really good, especially the former which is a driving, dancey number that sounds like essential THE PLAN to me.</div><div><br /></div><div> The band's final recordings showed up on the 9-track cd/12"LP '<b>Only These Movements Remain</b>'. Leading off with the sensational "Lit Like A Monument", it weaves discordant yet groovy path to my heart. It should be noted that the band definitely got a bit mathier on this release as songs such as "Man vs. MIDI" is a whirlwind of frenetic energy, jazzy beats, and layered vocals. "Let's Hear It For Our School Orchestra" and "Missive" are also very good, but I do find the second half of the album much more meandering and less brain-tingling than the first.</div><div><br /></div><div> It's crazy to say, but track-for-track this band is even better than <u>North Of America</u>. I can't believe I just wrote that...but it's true. Oh by the way <u>North Of America</u> reformed and is playing <u>Orchid</u>'s Toronto date!!!</div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________<br /><br /></div></div></div></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">DISCOGRAPHY</span><br /><a href="https://mega.nz/file/MvVwGBoY#KjJ9MZo0ACyhEDIR5Tk8JXNJcnCJSWXX21SNEW12eBU" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-small;">Click )==></span>here<span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-small;"><==( to download the band's complete discography in mp3 form.</span></a></div><div><br /></div><div>1999 - <b>Demo</b> cassette LP</div><div><br /></div><div>2000 - <b>Ante The Essay / Give Me The Theory</b> 7"EP</div><div>2000 - <b>This Time Is Not The Place</b> cd LP</div><div>2000 - <b>Demo</b> cassette cassette EP</div><div><br /></div><div>2001 - <b>Only These Movements Remain</b> cd/12" LP</div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2000)</span> THE PLAN - "3x3 Lines" (from '<b>This Time Is Not The Place</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/swd99nPM5Zg" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/swd99nPM5Zg" width="320" youtube-src-id="swd99nPM5Zg"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/swd99nPM5Zg</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2000)</span> THE PLAN - "I am All Kinds of Illegal" (from '<b>This Time Is Not The Place</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/9oqogVldHTg" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9oqogVldHTg" width="320" youtube-src-id="9oqogVldHTg"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/9oqogVldHTg</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2000)</span> THE PLAN - "Beyond Action and Reaction" (from '<b>This Time Is Not The Place</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/7XHmHCjr0RI" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7XHmHCjr0RI" width="320" youtube-src-id="7XHmHCjr0RI"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/7XHmHCjr0RI</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2000)</span> THE PLAN - "Ante The Essay" (from '<b>Ante The Essay / Give Me The Theory</b>' 7")</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/8qgk9_rC7GU" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8qgk9_rC7GU" width="320" youtube-src-id="8qgk9_rC7GU"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/8qgk9_rC7GU</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2000)</span> THE PLAN - "The Temporary City" (from '<b>Demo</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://youtu.be/ll6us7UnuSI" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ll6us7UnuSI" width="320" youtube-src-id="ll6us7UnuSI"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/ll6us7UnuSI</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2001)</span> THE PLAN - "Lit Like A Monument" (from '<b>Only These Movements Remain</b>')</div><div><a href="https://youtu.be/GtPBVlnlW_s" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GtPBVlnlW_s" width="320" youtube-src-id="GtPBVlnlW_s"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/GtPBVlnlW_s</a></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2001)</span> THE PLAN - "Man Vs. Looks like a solo project, and four LPs in 18 months is nuts for a band to accomplish, and is even pretty damn impressive for a lone ranger (if that is the case). 9 LAGOONS OF DEATH play sometimes fast, sometimes slow and droning, part black metal and part shoegaze aka blackgaze I guess, with a screamo base, aka early <u>Infant Island</u>.</div><div><br /></div><div> 2022's debut/self-titled '<b>9 Lagoons Of Death</b>' full length shows what the project is aiming for, and pretty much nails most of the sound, except perhaps the speed (generally slower) as well as in the vocal department which are yelled more than screamed (just a personal preference, of course). My faves off this are "Crawling Out My Hands" with a stellar riff, "How Did I Get This Low" because of the balance of melody & chaos, as well as "Darker" due to that gorgeous atmosphere. It's a decent listen and a definite must for any die-hard fan, but I wouldn't recommend starting here if you wanna check the band out. Keep on reading!</div><div><br /></div><div> 2023 was a very busy year as the band released '<b>Killtrocity</b>' and '<b>Soon I'll Be Gone</b>'. The former is more like a noise/grind album not unlike the quick attacks of early <u>Old Man Gloom</u>, but with less noise/metal and more grind/black-metal. I find this the least appealing of the four releases mostly because it doesn't sound like the same band, and perhaps could have been released under a different moniker, like oooooh I dunno 10 Swamps Of Life. So obviously don't start here if you want to listen because it very much seems to be a one-off. '<b>Soon I'll Be Gone</b>' on the other hand, was where I heard my first Lagoon Of Death and led me to salivate until the release of their stellar 2024 album. Back to the 2023 precursor, which is most certainly the evolution of the debut, bringing the better parts of it and fleshing them out. A few songs feature an additional vocalist by the name of <span style="text-align: center;">Ateş and they really work to elevate the songs along with the primary vocalist who leans more into screaming on this release. </span>"You Wanted Me (Ateş)" is a prime example of this and my vote for President Slap while "Bleeding In My Blood" has screaming that any screamo fan will appreciate. </div><div><br /></div><div> 2024's '<b>Feels Like Home</b>' has better recording, is much faster/screamier, and is generally pretty damn awesome, which is apparent in the first 10 seconds of opener "Arms So Tired Ill Never Let You Slip Away". There are some more serene moments as well as calmer jams (like "12 Brings Loneliness", "Heart So Cold", and "Feels Like The Last Time") but it's the head-swaying repetition of "The Things You Have To Say", the jarring momentum of "My Face In Your Eyes", and the swirling radiance of "I'm Yours Tonight" that really make this release feel like 9 LAGOONS OF DEATH hit the mark.</div><div><br /></div><div> I'm very stoked on this project and can't wait to hear what's next. If the speed of release continues we could definitely expect something else this year.</div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________<br /><br /></div></div></div></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: georgia; Locktender will have a new EP releasing any day now, and Inosuke released their debut full length 12" 'rage/ruin' in December of 2023. Here are a few things discussed in this podcast: being Canadian in the American scene, the Seventeen Again connection, house shows rule the earth, Interpunk as a lifeline, brothers becoming best friends, the fluctuations of <u>Men As Trees</u>, recording after <u>Avril Lavigne</u>, Ingo as a 16-year old, being sad in the woods, <u>Locktender</u>'s early years + pre-covid hiatus + May 2024 tour, Erik (the Cleveland) Anderson, the Demon Slayer reference and the real-life boar head, the next Inosuke piano record, etc. Bands played in this podcast: <u>A Day In Black And White</u>, <u>Bymyside</u>, <u>Gray Ghost</u>, <u>Nouveau</u>, <u>Pyramids</u>, and <u>Spires</u>. The three-piece hail from Massachusetts and play a mixture of many styles but there's definitely some <u>Living Conditions</u> and <u>Portrayal Of Guilt</u>, but with much more diversity as well as (somehow the opposite) attention to linear structure. That is to say, blackened screamo with hints of post-rock and other frills. Their four-song, self-titled debut is truly remarkable, especially considering this is the guitarist/vocalist's first band. Another remarkable thing is that this band seems to be birthed from the ashes of said member's deployment in Iraq, and subsequent awareness and distrust in a broken system run by broken people profiting from breaking the poorest of people.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUlmM0VYY3z8nOBYHAmU5lXxLr8aMOiHw_0SWQvjk511uoZ3scnNgSbSKf50rGy19JbrJtmrSEgUk5F8ZVyUkNGoFKzxvmIOLIJCq2VD6cNCmxCsTIebfVd5CltIrLROaK8KOjZ9pC7J7E5dlLmhFYKu0IzPAqurgbP9Xq8miNdjcGiQMZmMoZ78Mf/s3600/cover.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3600" data-original-width="3600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUlmM0VYY3z8nOBYHAmU5lXxLr8aMOiHw_0SWQvjk511uoZ3scnNgSbSKf50rGy19JbrJtmrSEgUk5F8ZVyUkNGoFKzxvmIOLIJCq2VD6cNCmxCsTIebfVd5CltIrLROaK8KOjZ9pC7J7E5dlLmhFYKu0IzPAqurgbP9Xq8miNdjcGiQMZmMoZ78Mf/s320/cover.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> '<b>Hauzu</b>'s opener "Ceaseless Wavering" goes for the jugular with a quick instrumental build and intense screaming, only to taper off and showcase a knack for finding space and filling it with minimal/sparse notes, helping elevate the heavier moments, to which we return again as the song plays out. Oh and that awesome guitar riff at 3:20 is just icing on the cake. "My Head Beneath the Waves" is the shortest song by far and obviously gets to the essentials more directly than the others, with a devastating bass riff (quick nod to <u>Crossed</u>) that permeates the entire song, forcing it to be a sludgy, noisy romp through its 1:41 runtime. "Forgettable Noise" takes a similar route to the first track in terms of it having a bunch of parts and navigating through them very efficiently, which further generates my engagement. Lotsa groove and restraint on this one. Picking up right where track three ends, closer and absolute behemoth "Little Shells" clocks in at 8:24 with a slow, jazzy, almost lounge-esque intro that creates a dark and somber mood. Once all the instrumentals meet up and kick in to a higher gear you just know the band is taking us on one helluva journey, one that I won't belittle with a lengthy description, but instead invite you to let it envelop you and make your own decision. Or I'm lazy. Either way!</div><div><br /></div><div> It should also be noted that Will K. from Dead Air Studios recorded, mixed, and mastered this beast, and also that the band has more material comin'! A mere six weeks ago the bands reached out letting me know they had a new split in the works that would end up on cdr and if Zegema Beach Records wanted to be involved. Without hearing a single second of material I jumped all over it and agreed. A few days back I got the masters and just shit all over my bedroom. Split of year? So far...hell yes. My first BC show was their Demo release show back in 2018 or something. They have grown leaps and bounds, and with Vee moving to vocals and Hayley joining on bass this band is heavier and better than ever. Falling somewhere between Blind Girls and Nuvolascura, this four-piece hits four primary pillars of heavy/techy screamo, danceable portions, glitched-out interludes, and lulling emo/posty sections. I've been wanting to talk to this encyclopedia for a while so this was very refreshing. Some things discussed: the birth of a piano-driven screamo band with Elias in a sequined dress...<u>The Piano Grapes</u>, the boy-band phase & songs about fuckin', Eyeball Records sampler, Interpunk orders, <u>Circle Takes The Square</u> forever (and their forum), elitist screamo brain, a Pokemon/Magic tangent, joining Not Just A Phase, dream interviews, ditching high school friends that don't listen to screamo, the Captain Planet era, etc. Bands played in this podcast: <u>Brava Spectre</u>, <u>Caught In The Fall</u>, <u>Die Princess Die</u>, <u>Endamori</u>, <u>Mans</u>, and <u>War Crimes</u>. Heavy screamo, bit o' hardcore, some black metal, and noise. After a jarring introduction the opening track opens up to a chaotic battlefield at around the two-minute mark featuring some insane drumming and a most excellent transition at 2:20, all of which gives me some <u>Gxlliam!</u> and <u>Infant Island</u> 'Sepulcher'-era material. "I Feel Like a Jesse Pinkman Shirt" is next and after a lulling intro goes straight into pummeling mode, reminding me a bit of <u>Dreamwell</u> and <u>Amitie</u> with lightning drums. You can find the slowest stuff and some clean vox on the third jam, which dips more into emo than the heavier songs. "Floccinaucinihicrucification" is full of speed and decimating panic chords that actually brings to mind the almighty <u>Loftus</u> and newer bands like <u>Fallingwithscissors</u>. Closer "Abuse Repression" clocks in at a whopping 6:26 and is arguably the bands' most experimental and all-encompassing track, and with the dark vibe and nightmare sounds it reminds of <u>Meth.</u>. You've also got hilarious song titles such as "The Number Thirteen Looks Like Bob" (after the band <u>The Number Twelve Looks Like You</u>), "I Feel Like a Jesse Pinkman Shirt" (a Breaking Bad reference), and "This Actually Is My First Rodeo" (that's just funny).</div><div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________<br /><br /></div></div></div></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">DISCOGRAPHY</span><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>2024 - <b>Abuse Regression</b> digital EP (<a href="https://abuserepression.bandcamp.com/album/abuse-repression" target="_blank">stream/donate/download here</a>)</div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2024)</span> ABUSE REPRESSION - "Floccinaucinihicrucification" (from '<b>Abuse Regression</b>')<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://youtu.be/j2g205vFuXY" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/j2g205vFuXY" width="320" youtube-src-id="j2g205vFuXY"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/j2g205vFuXY</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2024)</span> ABUSE REPRESSION - "Abuse Repression" (from '<b>Abuse Regression</b>')<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://youtu.be/Rxz6MeakjAc" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Rxz6MeakjAc" width="320" youtube-src-id="Rxz6MeakjAc"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/Rxz6MeakjAc</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2024)</span> ABUSE REPRESSION - "I Feel Like a Jesse Pinkman Shirt" (from '<b>Abuse Regression</b>')<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://youtu.be/OWvFQ1YXfPs" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OWvFQ1YXfPs" width="320" youtube-src-id="OWvFQ1YXfPs"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/OWvFQ1YXfPs</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div></div></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div></div>Dave Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03419463544621551129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1387616612701995522.post-67046706878557503022024-02-01T09:28:00.000-08:002024-02-01T09:41:02.624-08:00*** PODCAST #143 Matt Perrin (Horseboy, Big Water, Joust) ***<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjgR5Pv3Tkjap4HYzuhk1KsvaUY3ZFxi7JZpqS7tJWVAaUQcW4bMIWV5rhcgEGxqcEFSLvnQAGysW52J25Nmg9-BsfJvmmjm2bE3hkx4YWTMiIuW98KQEpSJAq9E-yo4ArvN0-ld5mE-Tfoh_x5Wo0o1A04K-rprMksTqpWLCSi_B7bKCa0ZrX8P_I/s1348/420626851_1423863398560391_3431099201709375714_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1348" data-original-width="1080" height="446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjgR5Pv3Tkjap4HYzuhk1KsvaUY3ZFxi7JZpqS7tJWVAaUQcW4bMIWV5rhcgEGxqcEFSLvnQAGysW52J25Nmg9-BsfJvmmjm2bE3hkx4YWTMiIuW98KQEpSJAq9E-yo4ArvN0-ld5mE-Tfoh_x5Wo0o1A04K-rprMksTqpWLCSi_B7bKCa0ZrX8P_I/w356-h446/420626851_1423863398560391_3431099201709375714_n.jpg" width="356" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div> I've been following the Kansas City scene quite closely since becoming friends with Bobby Johnson back in oooooooo 2013 or so. I'd never heard of them, but they released an EP back in 2021 that I totally missed, but you can bet your ass I immediately snagged it after hearing how absolutely fantastic the upcoming '<b>Vortex</b>' cassette/cd LP that drops February 6th, 2024 on Tomb Tree and Out Of Thunes Records. This band features members of <u>The Informers</u>, <u>Retsar Baînaim</u>, <u>Homeboys</u>, <u>Napoleon Solo</u>, <u>Black Shabbat</u>, <u>Monsieur Po</u>, <u>Calcine</u>, <u>Nordkaap</u>, <u>SaaR</u>, <u>Bain De Sang</u> and plays seriously dark, metallic, semi-mathy hardcore that I feel like is a ridiculously amazing cross of <u>Engineer</u>, <u>Horsewhip</u>, and <u>Ken Mode</u>. Today I'm premiering the closing jam and absolute beast that is "razor mind", and make sure to return on the 6th when this behemoth begins its official rampage. Sounds like the band is also cooking up at least one, if not more, music videos!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2024)</span> <b>VOLP</b> "razor mind" (from '<b>Vortex</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/aUk8FFPPec4" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aUk8FFPPec4" width="320" youtube-src-id="aUk8FFPPec4"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/aUk8FFPPec4</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div> Like many of the songs on this 8-song full length (approx. 30 minutes in total) the song doesn't have any soft parts, there are no interludes, zero cleans, nada noodle soup - this thing is abrasive, potent, violent, and unrelenting. It's also the longest song on the record by over a minute, clocking in at 5:14 with every single second being worth your time. After a short feedback/lulling intro the song goes full tilt around the 45-second mark, an utter barrage of symphonized noise complete with truly venomous vocals and adrenaline-soaked riffage and breakdowns. An obvious initial comparison is the new <u>Horsewhip</u> album but if you dug the destruction of <u>The Minor Times</u> and <u>Engineer</u> back in the day you'll fucking love this shit. By its midsection there's a slower passage that gets downright evil before hurtling itself down an infinite hill again which is where the climax of the song truly builds and eventually unravels much like Ken Mode has been doing for decades. God-fuckin'-damn that's a good time.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span face=""trebuchet ms" , sans-serif" style="font-size: large;">ADDITIONAL LINKS & WHATNOT</span><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://hardcore4gaza.bandcamp.com/track/abscess" target="_blank">Comp track "Abscess" that is also on the album from '<b>A Homeland Denied</b>'</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=783165951/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=de270f/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3714994354/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://hardcore4gaza.bandcamp.com/album/a-homeland-denied-a-compilation-for-the-palestinian-liberation">A HOMELAND DENIED: A Compilation for the Palestinian Liberation by VOLP</a></iframe></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Dave Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03419463544621551129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1387616612701995522.post-16930294952778161712024-01-25T22:52:00.000-08:002024-01-25T23:09:02.363-08:00MISSOURI EXECUTIVE ORDER 44<div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><i><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><u><span style="font-size: xx-large;"><b><a href="https://meo44.bandcamp.com/" target="_blank">MISSOURI EXECUTIVE ORDER 44</a></b></span></u></div></i><i>For fans of</i>: <b><u>Celebration</u>, <u>Gxlliam!</u>, <u>Canyons</u>, <u>Leg Yield</u>, <u>Graf Orlock</u>, <u>Nerver</u>, <u>Pretty Mouth</u>, and <u>Big Water</u></b><b>.<br /></b><i>Genres</i>: <b>Punk / Hardcore / Metal / Screamo</b><b> / Skramz</b><b> / </b><b>Emo-violence / Powerviolence / Grindcore</b></div></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>Related artists</i>: <b><u>AGENT</u>, <u>Any Kind Of Cleaning Supply</u>, <u>Big Water</u>, <u>Bluehealer</u>, <u>Bummer</u>, <u>Con College</u>, <u>Gridlock</u>, <u>Leg Yield</u>, <u>Pear'n</u>, <u>The Deacons</u>, <u>Vestibule</u>, <u>Horseboy</u>, <u>Iwakura</u>, <u>Joust</u>, <u>Product Lust</u>, <u>Black Pope</u>, <u>Byrgeau Noil</u>, <u>Lushing</u>, <u>Tall Boys</u>, <u>Abandoncy</u>, and <u>Riala</u></b>.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>Country</i>: <b>Independence/Kansas City, Missouri U.S.A.</b><br /><i>Years Active</i>: <b>2022-present</b><br /><div><i>Label(s): </i><b>Self Released</b><div><br /> Preceding my podcast with Matt Perrin is the band he told me about during said cast, MISSOURI EXECUTIVE ORDER 44. I picked up 'The New Science' and jammed it incessantly. Then my girlfriend at the time (now wife) and made the 4-hour trek to see them play, where they killed it. I rabidly picked up the next EP demo and a year later 'We Impend' was released on Year Of The Sun Records. Two years after that they broke up and Robb's next band Higher Rites released an album with some leftover/reworked FTM jams. In the 16 years that have followed I have never stopped jamming these two EPs, for they are fucking incredible. After a few years of chasing the band around I finally was able to sit down with vocalist/guitarist Robb and bassist Albert to discuss the band's history and possible future, as well as: Zaphod Beeblebrox & the Ottawa scene, an avalanche of compliments, Robb's writing framework, the <u>Faraday</u> to <u>For The Mathematics</u> bridge, factors of influence/discovery, music bombardment, restraining the unrestrainable, low budget music videos, FTM keggers & the 5-minute keyboardist, ravenous youth & the East Coast, too many drummers, Alberto leaving the band, doing their 'In Utero', being in a Horse The Band pit during "Cutsman", the 20th anniversary, etc. Bands played in this podcast: <u>Girl Arm</u>, <u>Horseboy</u>, <u>Nation Of Language</u>, <u>Self</u>, <u>Sufjan Stevens</u>, and <u>Tropical Fuck Storm</u>. Clay was in <u><a href="https://www.last.fm/music/Jetplanes+Of+Abraham/Jetplanes+Of+Abraham" target="_blank">Jetplanes of Abraham</a></u> for a while before <u>Higher Rites</u>. Robb was in the band for about 5 minutes but was testing out a draft of '<b>We Impend</b>' on them and realized it needed to go to <u>For The Mathematics</u>. They were pretty popular in town for a while before breaking up. Liam was in <u><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Balconies" target="_blank">The Balconies</a></u> for a good while. These guys were on Warner, and probably the biggest band that members have been affiliated with in some capacity. James (FTM drummer #2) and Robb are in <u><a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/47YXzaWCKSe9r5kpur8yjy" target="_blank">The Pale Light</a></u> right now. Their second album '<b>Leviathan</b>' sounds closer to <u>For The Mathematics</u> than their first, '<b>Future Eaters</b>'.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; The primary reason I'm posting this today is because Moscow "post-hardcore" band began with a sick screamo-esque debut which has since been taken down from the band's socials. The newer material is much more subdued and less playful, which is why I won't bother covering that here.</div><div><br /></div><div> I'm just here for the self-titled '<span style="text-align: center;"><b>Ива</b></span>'. Consisting of seven short jams generally hovering around the minute-and-a-half mark, the band weaves intricate patterns mixing gorgeous noodles with barely distorted guitars and minimal heavyness. The vocals are shouted to the point where they break into screams, but this is more like later <u>La Quiete</u> and <u>Raein</u> material where the emphasis is on the mood of the music, and the vocals are more of an afterthought (as well as less screamy). If you dig these jams you should at least look into their later material, but I'm pretty sure there were member changes that resulted in a pretty quick shift out of this style.</div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">DISCOGRAPHY</span><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>2010 - Ива cdEP (<a href="https://mega.nz/folder/cVNRRJoQ#OexXqtExEPd4seZa_ig4Cg" target="_blank">download here</a>)</div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://eeva.bandcamp.com/" target="_blank">then a bunch more stuff you can check out yourself on the band's Bandcamp</a></div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2010)</span> Ива - "3" (from 'Ива')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/Xfhe-Wz0L2A" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Xfhe-Wz0L2A" width="320" youtube-src-id="Xfhe-Wz0L2A"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/Xfhe-Wz0L2A</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2010)</span> Ива - "7" (from 'Ива')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/UCDpJS6Dtlk" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UCDpJS6Dtlk" width="320" youtube-src-id="UCDpJS6Dtlk"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/UCDpJS6Dtlk</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2010)</span> Ива - "6" (from 'Ива')<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://youtu.be/O564SdOOYBA" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/O564SdOOYBA" width="320" youtube-src-id="O564SdOOYBA"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/O564SdOOYBA</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div></div>Dave Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03419463544621551129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1387616612701995522.post-14026603020294636322024-01-08T15:35:00.000-08:002024-01-08T15:45:38.899-08:00MAYTH<div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><i>Band</i>: <u><span style="font-size: xx-large;"><b><a href="https://mayth1986.bandcamp.com/" target="_blank">MAYTH</a><br /></b></span></u><i>For fans of</i>: <b><u>Aux.Aura</u>, <u>Us Haunted Bodies</u>, <u>Linger</u>, <u>Hallam Foe</u>, <u>Ihuntmonsters</u>, <u>The Great Redneck Hope</u>, (early) <u>Curl Up And Die</u>, <u>Tyranny Of Shaw</u>, <u>Advocate</u>, <u>Dear Diary This Is A Letter From My Teenage Angst To My Adult Self</u>, (early) <u>SeeYouSpaceCowboy,</u> and <u>Long.Way.Down</u></b><b>.<br /></b><i>Genres</i>: <b>Punk / Hardcore / Metallic Hardcore / Screamo</b><b> / Skramz</b><b> / </b><b>Emo-violence</b></div></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>Related artists</i>: <b><u>?</u></b>.<br /><i>Country</i>: <b>MALAYSIA</b><br /><i>Years Active</i>: <b>2023-present</b><br /><div><i>Label(s): </i><b>Self Released</b><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQtn8D2GDLc5mSOJEBEEt2cvmpLJz0EBxmyxO5XpzgyK9bGMHfesPYbPirYkKcH_-PSlfs2hru5z00FLEIy5dX7mJaT64DGZKRjhQ0IuVjwRv4k6mNgg6n6KmpoQUfMpEtqYDqO3s58jR-ZVYqdqLShhHIDdevXgfYwM4Mx1XH0-uG-LjVTPx-9r6U/s1400/cover.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1400" data-original-width="1400" height="302" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQtn8D2GDLc5mSOJEBEEt2cvmpLJz0EBxmyxO5XpzgyK9bGMHfesPYbPirYkKcH_-PSlfs2hru5z00FLEIy5dX7mJaT64DGZKRjhQ0IuVjwRv4k6mNgg6n6KmpoQUfMpEtqYDqO3s58jR-ZVYqdqLShhHIDdevXgfYwM4Mx1XH0-uG-LjVTPx-9r6U/w302-h302/cover.jpg" width="302" /></a></div> The two quick releases in 2023 from MAYTH caught my attention before I even listened, for it said it was "emo-violence from Malaysia" so naturally if you don't check that out immediately you aren't really <i>in the know</i> about screamo, are you? Elitism aside, this solo project released four songs this year that blew my socks off.</div><div><br /></div><div> Starting with a fantastic short three-song EP '<b>greater transmission risk</b>', these tracks blow by as each jam is less than a minute long. Venomous vocals (almost black metal in delivery) amidst chaotic hardcore and those wonderful emo-violence octaves, describing it any further seems silly given how short the tracks are. Just a month later '<b>mayth</b>' was released that houses the single track titled "confusion". This track is almost as long as the entire EP that precedes it, and brings to mind the more metallic hardcore being kicked around in the early 2000s, namely <u>Advocate</u> and <u>Tyranny Of Shaw</u>.<br /><br /> According to their Bandcamp page, there will be a full length dropping this March! Hella stoked on that.</div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________<br /><br /></div></div></div></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">DISCOGRAPHY</span><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>2023 - <b>greater transmission risk</b> digital single (<a href="https://mayth1986.bandcamp.com/album/greater-transmission-risk" target="_blank">stream/donate/download here</a>)</div><div>2023 - <b>mayth</b> digital EP (<a href="https://mayth1986.bandcamp.com/album/mayth" target="_blank">stream/donate/download here</a>)</div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2023)</span> MAYTH - "iv" (from '<b>greater transmission risk</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/UA9YkVbeaLw" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UA9YkVbeaLw" width="320" youtube-src-id="UA9YkVbeaLw"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/UA9YkVbeaLw</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2023)</span> MAYTH - "ii" (from '<b>greater transmission risk</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/Jt0TGufva1s" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Jt0TGufva1s" width="320" youtube-src-id="Jt0TGufva1s"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/Jt0TGufva1s</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-size: x-large;">(2023)</span> MAYTH - "confusion" (from '<b>mayth</b>')</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/wplWzmS7_DA" target="_blank"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wplWzmS7_DA" width="320" youtube-src-id="wplWzmS7_DA"></iframe></div>https://youtu.be/wplWzmS7_DA</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">MAYTH additional links</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://mayth1986.bandcamp.com/" target="_blank">Bandcamp</a><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">________________________________________</div></div>Dave Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03419463544621551129noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1387616612701995522.post-71075176784726827372024-01-05T00:03:00.000-08:002024-01-05T00:03:07.684-08:00*** PODCAST #141 Kyle (VS Self, Self Versed Records) ***<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2aqxPVzs9f1rPnDtoNYb5NjFzvQDpu6pjmOvLIwjvSxM8DXBoJmR7tpyUF67jrmHhzj6YJyq6Ld4WZbN693ixQsoUWU5iHRXUhmL78_8B3cSW3Z_hsrRukbVLFimIPFeoD-QYvW17bq-Ph9CnvV00h0O3INIRk2NoWXKLKB-_O7DCyMdmQSql4QHv/s1080/kyle%20vs%20self.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="738" data-original-width="1080" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2aqxPVzs9f1rPnDtoNYb5NjFzvQDpu6pjmOvLIwjvSxM8DXBoJmR7tpyUF67jrmHhzj6YJyq6Ld4WZbN693ixQsoUWU5iHRXUhmL78_8B3cSW3Z_hsrRukbVLFimIPFeoD-QYvW17bq-Ph9CnvV00h0O3INIRk2NoWXKLKB-_O7DCyMdmQSql4QHv/w387-h265/kyle%20vs%20self.jpg" width="387" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div> VS SELF has been blowing up for a minute, and their cross between Two Knights emo and D'Amore screamo piqued my interest and then some. I had the pleasure of chatting with Kyle (guitar/vox) of the band who also runs Self Versed Records. A few things discussed: Gayt (Kyle's new band), covering up profanity in the car, drunk does not equal punk, overcoming struggles and the rebirth, a <u>Reptilian</u> tangent, The Badlands show turning point, accumulated factors of success, losing of a member/gaining a member, TikTok talk, living the dream and being in constant awe, VS Self's 2024, go to all the screamo shows in San Diego and L.A., etc. Bands played in this podcast: <u>Boyfriends</u>, <u>Cassels</u>, <u>Cenobite</u>, <u>D'Amore</u>, <u>Dakota Dakota</u>, and <u>Icrywhenispeak</u>.
