BLIND GIRLS may be the best thing to come out of Australia since Eucalypt. Holyyyyyy sheeeeat. I'm so glad they took the initiative to send their link to me via email, otherwise I'd never have heard them as I've yet to see any posts about the band.
BLIND GIRLS play some heavily influenced throwback European emo-violence/screamo. They've got playful guitar playing (Kidcrash, Beau Navire), bass and drums that roll together through treacherous soundscapes and screaming that is both high pitched yet thick as well as throaty (Danse Macabre, Altar Of Complaints). Their first 3-song EP shows some potential but it wasn't until the release of their 2014 EP that I really took notice.
Their latest effort 'Efflorescence' is a sonic progression that is much more direct, deep and dense than its predecessor. The entire aura of the music has been shrunk down to half the size yet it still contains all of the elements that made the early work interesting. That's not to say that the songs are shorter (although generally they are a bit), the band just seems so full and refined. The title track "Efflorescence" has some fantastic, speedy drumming and is the band's longest song, clocking in at almost four minutes. The vocals in "Black" scream European emo-violence/hardcore like June Paik and Danse Macabre. "Thorn Trail" is the album's shortest track and it rips through in a minute twenty-two leaving my jaw agape every time. "Cycles of a Last Memory" is the tops, though. This song really brings Ravin and Beau Navire to mind as it weaves a dreamy, bass saturated, screamy sound that will always resonate with me.
Excellent work, my friends. Everybody hop on this...like, now.
