I like some rock, but honestly a lot of rock just plain sucks. As you've probably realized by now I listen to more heavy/screamy music than I do rock, so when I come across a rock band that I dig, it usually means something interesting/exciting is going on.

That being said, this is short because GUILTMAKER only has three songs that I jam. But goddamn I am a fan of said jams. I grabbed 'Dilemmas' shortly after it was released because...I don't remember why. The cd was kind of a throwaway before I noticed the song "Battle Mountain" which I eventually fell in love with. I remembered liking the song "Life Given Switch" so I perused the album once more and found this was another keeper. Both songs delve heavily into spacey dream/pop-rock setting hooks dripping with sugary vocal goodness. Think new/clean-era Codeseven with less pitch variety and a hint of Desoto Jones (minus the cheese). I know Dan Radde used to play in heavyweight grind/hardcore acts Combatwoundedveteran and Reversal Of Man, but expect none of that style here.

Before reviewing the band a few months back I came across three other EPs released by GUILTMAKER. The debut EP 'Driven by Arms' was alright, with "Mark the Walls" being the strongest track. The new EP 'Hidden Affinity' was shelved almost immediately but the band's followup to 'Dilemmas', entitled 'The Emerald Coast' housed a few decent tracks along with the absolute gem "Crystal Seas" which is my favourite keeper by GUILTMAKER. It has the perfect balance of head-bobbing melody and crunchy/dreamy guitars that are fluffed out with some excellent vocals by none other than...the vocalist. When the chorus hits around 1:27 that sugary sweet and soaring singing serves as some serious aural candy, which comes back around with an extended outro at 3:21 as he croons...shit I can't find lyrics anywhere. Just trust me, this song is fantastic.
