GRAY GHOST were a random band that I happened across back in...2010 or so. I really have no clue how I was introduced. Anyway, I'm glad I was. The band played a dark mix of hardcore and post-metal which sounded like AmenRa albeit a bit faster and with shorter songs. The band's work is heavy and blanketing in its darkness but isn't necessarily overly heavy or metal, as it does retain a sense of melody as the band pumps out songs that don't leave you in the dust wondering what just fucking happened. It's almost metalcore, but there's more of a blackened-crust/sludge feel to it with venomous vocals. I've rarely, if ever heard people talk about this band and that's just sad. If you like bands like Llynch, Castle, Old Man Gloom and Isis.

The band's first demo which was released in 2008 and featured demo tracks that have different names and are cool to listen to and compare to the final versions that ended up on future records.

"Siberian" is a plodding and very well executed cavernous post-hardcore/metal that is an excellent way to start out 'Deep in the Shallow End' which covers chuggy and sludgy metallic hardcore as well as tribal chants. "Hollowed Out", "Slay or Sleep" and "Hold" are also great tracks from that 12".

As for the 10", "Soul Seekers / Faith Stealers" is the best song from that which reminds me of Fall Of Efrafa in the way the song cascades and includes a huge Omega Massif-style chord progression and lone, ringing notes.

The 'Succubus' 7" is also a very decent little fella as the blazing "Lascivious Shrines" is fucking unbelievable and the band embraces the chanting vocals a bit more, but the release is standard GRAY GHOST fare, nonetheless. What is that fare? I'd say it's Conan The Barbarian (and possibly The Destroyer, too) finding a time machine and dabbling in black, crusty hardcore/metalcore. Amazing stuff, I say.
