I first heard SWAN OF TUONELA in late 2013. I shit my pants when I heard them for the first time. The band plays a stunning and engaging mix of screamy post-hardcore and post-rock with ambient/atmospheric passages that will have your head exploding/swaying in no time. The band has a dark, ominous and creeping sound that is simultaneously epic and haunting. Think of the soft parts of City Of Caterpillar, Angel Eyes and Totem Skin and combine that with the downright chaos of Neil Perry, Mesa Verde, United Nations, Loma Prieta and the almighty Back When. The screaming varies between crazy high pitched shrieking and lower gutteral stuff, but primarily the listener gets an ear-full of Jeromes Dream and Van Johnson-styled vocals. I've also got to point out the shattering bass at the beginning of "Spira", I love that massive stuff. If these guys record a full length I'm going to lose my mind.
