I love doing these posts because it forces me to sit down with a bunch of songs from a band I already love and listen to them all and then write about why I love them. Love. The band I'm reviewing now is one of those bands that I have a hard time writing about because they are so obscure and so incredible at the same time. How am I supposed to convince you that this is definitely worth checking out?

FOR THE MATHEMATICS is another one of those bands that makes me angry because so few people know about them. Well, maybe angry is the wrong word. Frustratingly perplexed might be a better expression. The band was able to throw together 2 of the most impressive sassy/screamy post/garage-rock records at a time when The Mars Volta was gaining footing and somehow, everyone missed out on this band. Looking back over the The Mars Volta and FOR THE MATHEMATICS discographies, FOR THE   MATHEMATICS is a clear-cut winner. No ego. No douchebaggery. No recognition. This band played for the love of playing and it showed.

The vocals are at the forefront. This guy can hit some seriously high notes before he cracks into a shrieky yell/scream for when he just can't contain himself. The drums are amazing and very tribal/Mars Volta-esque. The instrumentals are extremely jangly and jump all over the place like math teachers with ADD. Anyone who is remotely interested in the stylings of At The Drive In and The Mars Volta will (most likely) shit their pants upon hearing this. So. Fucking. Good. It's. Making. Me. Crazy. Download the discography for infectious sass, and then shake your ass.
