мятеж , or mretx, or myatezh, or Rebellion, or Insurgency, is one of the most unique band processes I’ve ever seen or been a part of. David asked me to write about the band since I’m not on anything released yet and have more of an outsider’s perspective of it all. In a way I saw the formation of the “band” happen. I remember when Chris showed up on some screamo facebook groups and everyone freaked out that he was in Yaphet Kotto. I remember seeing David first start posting his blog around. It didn’t take too long for them to connect, and David started doing vocals for a recording project that Chris had started. I was sent a few early ones and was extremely surprised with the songs, as they had pretty much everything I love: great melodies, blast beats, spacey parts, harsh distorted screams, all in mostly short, compact bursts. In 2015 they got asked to play Warp Zone Fest in Peoria, IL, so they planned to do a tour around it with People’s Temple Project, who they were about to do a split with. David asked me to play bass and help book some shows. We asked a few different drummers to play with us, but none could so Eric from PTP played with us. We all met in Long, Island, David drove, Chris flew, and I took a bus from Nashville with a bass combo stuffed in a suitcase. We practiced 3 times and then went on a 10 day tour. Each day of tour we just considered another practice. Sometimes we played better than we thought we could. Other times the songs just turned into chaos, but never really fell apart either. We met many people that we had only talked to online, completing this weird process of people only knowing each other on the internet do to a mutual love of music coming together in reality from different places, which is basically the whole foundation of this band. We did another short run in August 2016 around Swamp Fest, and now they are on their way to tour Europe around Cry Me A River. Unfortunately this go around I couldn’t afford to go, so I’m just at home writing and in control of the blog while they’re gone.

Musically, мятеж covers a bit of ground, yet each song still sounds like it's from the same bands. Chris mentioned in his interview with David a while ago that he was experimenting with mixing Crossed Out with Explosions In The Sky, which I find to be a pretty perfect description of the band in general. Some songs are pure rippers, others devolve into almost ambient parts, and there's also some beautiful slow jams.
