REX KWON DO gets their name from the almighty Napoleon Dynamite and released their 'Demo' in fall 2024 and I'm in love. These four jams are chaotic, mathy, heavy, and shrieky as fuck. Imagine Me And Him Call It Us, Hayworth, and Kiowa in a blender. Shit slaps super hard, like in the opener "Don't Let the Door Hit You Where the Good Lord Split Ya" at 1:14 when the bass drop goes off as an explosion and blowing out all other instruments, then everything slowly increases in volume again as the speakers regain their ability to produce sound. It's fucking awesome and I have yet to hear anything like it. Closer "Thugs, Drugs, and the War on Bugs" brings in the screamo/emo-violence crossover that warranted the Kiowa comparison and is my vote for best song on the EP, especially that quiet and brooding intro and all those dual vox. Easily one of the best demos of the year!!!
