My relationship with SYNODUS HORRENDA is one based around the craziest show I've ever been a part of. In the summer of 2016 the project I do vocals for, мятеж, did a few dates in the U.S.A. and our Baltimore stop was put on by the beautiful people in SYNODUS HORRENDA who also lived in and ran Skramden Yards. Apparently a band dropped from the show a week or so prior and the band was asked to take their place, despite having not finished writing their songs. So we did the show and they played for about 8 minutes of semi-improv, screamy hardcore that was barely practiced, but it hardly showed. Check out the full review and videos for that show here.

This split between мятеж and SYNODUS HORRENDA features just over 12 minutes of caustic, screamy and sometimes atmospheric hardcore. The 50 cassettes are each housed in a unique photograph (so there are 50 different covers!) wrapped around a black tape, all within a plastic, resealable sleeve. From Baltimore, SYNODUS HORRENDA are a new band with members that have spent time in EyeletмищаDawntreader and Sunners, to name a few. Their five debut tracks trade off vocals from June and Nick and generally are pulsating, raw and dirty screamo with a heavy emphasis on punk rock and hardcore.

The SYNODUS HORRENDA side opens with an initially loose and hazy intro that cuts halfway through the song to all of the members spazzing out on "The Thrill of Living is Gone". "When a Bee Stings it Dies" is up next and wastes no time getting into yelly/shrieky, dark and raw hardcore with vocals that sound like they're on the brink of dying forever. "Somewhere Along the Line Things Went Terribly Wrong and Now Mr. Burns is My Favorite Simpsons Character" is an awesome stab at Pg.99 and German screamo with some exceptional screaming that is definitely one of the best songs on here. "We Are the Children of the Witches You Could Not Burn" is a rolling, sludgy and caustic romp through more screamy hardcore, again opting for screamier over screechier vocals. "Blood in the Jar" wraps up the SYNODUS HORRENDA side of the split tape, boasting a very engaging and eerie instrumental opening that climaxes with a dirty, viral and acidic close.

Tomorrow is the premiere of the entire мятеж and SYNODUS HORRENDA split cassette over at the Form Und Leer blog and pre-orders for the cassette are up now and linked here.

I'm not 100% sure how I found out about I HATE SALLY. I know I saw them live at the Opera House back in the mid-2000s but I'm quite sure that I was already aware of the band by that point. Regardless, I am somewhat versed in the 'Don't Worry Lady' LP but otherwise I have little to no knowledge of their other recordings, and as much as I may have dug them over a decade ago, I'm not hankering to search out more music in conjunction to the plethora of awesome stuff rolling in through my email. So...here goes.

I HATE SALLY released 'Don't Worry Lady' in 2006 and seemed to get instant recognition. After an initial 26-second intro "Song of Deborah" takes hold and caresses your hand for more than the first minute in lulling post-hardcore/post-metal before getting all I HATE SALLY on us. That's a good thing. Strained, screamed female vocals are accompanied by the odd male backup throat shreds and sludgy, head-bobbing hardcore instrumentals that lean more toward post-hardcore as the speed is much more subdued. "Hannah Hannah" is much more venomous and busts outta the gate with dark, rolling bass and snarled screams. This track, along with "Bathsheba of Seven" and "Martha Served" all have official music videos which are worth checking out, especially the latter two which are embedded below, with all three songs having quite a few similarities in sound as well as length (about three minutes each). "Iseah's Life" is my personal favourite and its 8:56 length speaks to its prodigiousness. The song gets fast and rockin' not unlike Every Time I Die but stays rooted in deep, chaotic hardcore and metalcore such as early Norma Jean, The Chariot and perhaps most obviously Mares Of Thrace. "Iseah's Cancer" is next and does the slow, instrumental jam thing. "Mary! Mary!" is 4:12 of hellish hardcore with a doomier handle while "Anna's Empty Conscious for the Blessed" is a massive 9:51 with ridiculous breakdowns as early as 40 seconds in, and it's also my second favourite tune on here. The closer "Eve, Be Dear to Him" is nearly six minutes of I HATE SALLY on speed, with a much heavier emphasis on punk and hardcore instead of metal.

A pretty cool, heavy, Canadian band from the mid-2000s...mmmmmm.

Remains of the Day were a short lived band from Portland, OR that created some of the most beautiful melodic crust ever. Their album "Hanging On Rebellion" is easily one of my favorite albums of all time, and gets constant listens. They were contemporaries of Tragedy and From Ashes Rise, and have a similar sound, but never seem to get as much recognition as their peers. They started if with a self titled demo of 3 songs that are very close to early From Ashes Rise and The Spectacle, very good for a first release, with pretty intros and plenty of fast melodic yet brutal parts. They released their first full length "An Underlying Frequency" the next year, and while not a huge difference, you can hear them coming more into their own sound. This is definitely helped by the addition of a violinist, who makes the quiet parts more epic and harmonizes with the guitars at points. "This Is Living" is probably my favorite track on it, as it's pretty much the closest track to how their last album sounds. Their next release was a split with German grindcrust champions Keitzer. They only have one song called "Dead Cells", but damn is it a killer track. This song probably is the best example of their overall sound, as it mixes the His Hero Is Gone heavy hardcore side with the more beautiful pseudo screamo side that is closer to Spanish crust bands like Madame Germen and Ekkaia.
Their last release was a full length called "Hanging On Rebellion". Album opener "Dreaming Drowning" starts out with an almost spooky violin part, then after a few hits of everyone together goes into some of the catchiest yet depressing punk based music with all harsh vocals you can find. "Therapy For the Appointed Man" is mid paced the whole time, but never gets boring due to the guitars and the vocal phrasing/tradeoffs. "Depicting the Subtleties" starts out fast with a positive sounding chord progression, then goes into a 3 part section that repeats once that is full of almost bouncy melodies over d-beats, but breaks down around 1:33 into an epic mid paced part that ends with the violin fading into the next song. "Only to Infinity" starts out with a pretty guitar part that builds to a gorgeous and huge sounding part before going into yet another fast punk song full of memorable melodies. At 4:07 it goes into what is probably the closest thing to a guitar solo in their songs, and then breaks down into a part with acoustic guitars before coming in with a big sad sounding outro.
ummm alright I'm gonna stop there with the song by song, because I'll just repeat myself over and over with terms like "beautiful" and "epic", but I don't know how else to describe this stuff. I think one of the reasons I love their last album so much is that, unlike their earlier stuff, it seems to be all about the melodies rather than trying to be heavy, and there's really not many bands that did it like this.
In the downloads the s/t is included with "An Underlying Frequency" under tracks 13-15, plus includes 4 other songs that didn't get an official release that are tracks 9-12. The split with Keitzer is included with "Hanging on Rebellion", which also has an extra song "Confinement" that sounds like it was from an early session.

***EDHOCHULI w/HANG THE OLD YEAR & LA LUNA show review***

This is a little late coming, so I apologize for that. I love EDHOCHULI. Like, a lot. I've seen them four or five times in the last four years and have been continually blown away by their live performances. They are also a bunch of party-enthusiast sweethearts that I am usually able to chill hard with, so this was a weird show for my wife and I as it was our last (as well as Lisa's first) time seeing EDHOCHULI in Canada, and likely ever. I also met the fellas in HANG THE OLD YEAR and they were awesome, to boot. So here is a quick overview of the bands I actually had time to see.

HANG THE OLD YEAR
I'm not really sure how to describe this band's sound. I guess there's a lot rooted in rock, metal and post-hardcore but even that would be pigeonholing. From 2:30 onward in the video below you'll hear some awesome riffs and witness an intense live performance. The band was kind enough to give me their new 12" LP called 'The Incessant Hum', which is more great interplay with the dueling guitars and double vocals, not to mention the drums and bass. I can see the crossover that they have with Edhochuli and understand why the bands meshed so well on tour.

EDHOCHULI
I love this band. I love the members. I love the releases. I love the shows. Uhhhhhuuuuhuuhuhuh. They played a killer set that included "Erase the Past", "Filibuster", a track off of their ST and two brands spankin' new songs, both of which conclude close to the 10-minute mark. I was able to catch one of the two new songs but, as good as this song is (embedded below), the one I opted not to video was even better. If you are interested in hearing searing hardcore and screamo melded beautifully with Thin Lizzy-inspired, mathy, classic rock. Whatever their next release is will almost undoubtedly be in my top 5 of the year. Hot damn, I'm gonna miss y'all. <3
Link to: Erase the Past

LA LUNA
LA LUNA closed the show in excellent fashion, with the power going out just a minute into their first song, if that gives you any indication. It was a truly commanding performance, especially with the song I've embedded below for your viewing pleasure. You can't get much better spoken word, building, epic screamo.

***INNOVATIONS IN SOUND AND COMMUNICATION comp / MAJOREL exclusive premiere***

***exclusive song premiere***

Greg from the incredible People's Temple Project and the diy-as-fuck Akashita Corporation label asked me just last night if I could premiere a song from their upcoming 12-minute tape compilation. The name of the comp is 'Innovations In Sound and Communication' and will be available via cassette from the Akashita Corporation really soon. There will be new music from Under A Sky So Blue, Majorel, Heritage Unit, The Ultimate Screamo Band, Aspine and Apostles of Eris. Go to the Akashita Corporation bandcamp page right here, as the full tape comp will be available this weekend, July 23rd or so.

The song we are premiering today is from our good Richmond, Virginia friends in MAJOREL, for whom we released their debut cassette EP 'Restlessness In Memory' on Zegema Beach Records earlier this year, which you can pick up right here. This song, titled 'Ivory Tower', is culled from those same, initial recording sessions and has a similar feel but walks a much more extreme path. Wasting no time, the song kicks in with multiple vocalists right from the get-go and opts for more melody than the usual during the first half of its 2:37 length. Once 1:12 hits the song rips into another, darker gear altogether and fucking shreds, with an exceptional low/high screaming trade-off from 1:45 until the close. Yet another phenomenal MAJOREL song. If you haven't checked out this band yet you are doing yourself an unspeakable injustice, as their full EP will be in my top five of 2017, no doubt.

I came across WRISTMEETRAZOR when one of my facebook friends listed their bandcamp with a For Fans Of: .gif from god and Letters To Catalonia so, naturally, I started salivating and downloaded the three-song 'Demo' before even hearing a note. The ffo listed was quite accurate, with the band perhaps straying more toward melody, structure and more grounded vocals, that is to say not insanely screamy/shrieky.

Jonah from Secondgradeknifefight (reviewed two days ago) plays in both bands and listed the following as influences for WRISTMEETRAZOR: Neil Perry, Welcome the Plague Year, Majority Rule, Tristan Tzara, Raein, Mihai Edrisch, Kodan Armada. I think the most apt comparisons would be Letters To Catalonia, .gif from god, Black Nail and SeeYouSpaceCowboy but that's only hearing the three demo songs. "I" is my favourite of the three, with a deceptive beginning that gets into the metalcore/screamo sound after the first 10 to 15 seconds and includes a sick breakdown from one minute onward. "II" is a more drawn out affair that eclipses the three-minute mark and is epic, driving and well directed with a splattering of the band's most extremes, including a lot of post-hardcore instrumentals that are more serene than the opener and closer. Speaking of the closer, "III" is not unlike "I" in it's minute-and-change length, but the sound doesn't reach the same intensity, and opts instead for deep, dark and driving hardcore for the first half before letting loose just after a minute.

WRISTMEETRAZOR is currently wrapping up their debut 8-song LP that will be released on Zegema Beach Records and a few other, smart, sonically sassy and amazing labels later in 2017, most likely on 12". Expect to hear more on this blog soon!

This post's artist is from the May 2017 Mix. This is track #1.
You can download: the July 2017 Mix#7 right here or get the new August 2017 Mix#8 here.

SECONDGRADEKNIFEFIGHT is batshit crazy, and I mean that in the best way possible. The band opts for 30 to 60 second blasts of noisy, violent, caustic and mathy grindcore in the vein of Robinson, The Great Redneck Hope (minus any sense of repetitious melodies), The Sawtooth Grin and Daughters.

I first checked out the band when they released 'pg 1' back in February of 2017, and now that I've sit down to write it I see that SECONDGRADEKNIFEFIGHT has quickly dropped another EP and LP in the subsequent five months. That's commitment! So instead of talking about each song and release, I'll just stick to a quick format.

The 'pg 1' LP (although it's only five minutes and change) was quickly followed by the 'pg 2' EP in mid-2017, both of which showcase insane grindy mathcore influenced by the aforementioned bands, with a few exceptions, such as "redneck inter-lewd-acts 23 (keep on truckin)" which nods at Heavy Heavy Low Low after the 20-second mark. In between these two parts came the 21-second single "think again Tommy I stole your mom's dildo (live laugh love)" that's par for the SECONDGRADEKNIFEFIGHT course.

The band's newest endeavor, a split with The Cheeseburger Picnic is extreme even for SECONDGRADEKNIFEFIGHT standards, which opens with the very hellish "youd better fuckin not you jackass" followed by the hyperspeed drumming and venomous vocals of "let me tell you a story about a kid named brandice". "green eggs and the hamburglars revenge (don't you even think about eating those cat turds timothy)" incorporates demonic growls alongside the shrieking as well as some pretty sweet guitar riffs ala The Great Redneck Hope. There's also the noisy clusterfuck that is "shut it up me" while in "living with droopy dog gave me the boom snap (it was actually the clap)" the instrumentals are not unlike The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza. This is definitely my favourite release and the closing track happens to be my jam as "i went to a carnival with the cheesburger picnic and i left with two stuffed bears and half a dirty popsicle" adds in some synth for a Devola and Genghis Tron feel.

Jonah (guitar) of SECONDGRADEKNIFEFIGHT recently did an interview on a two-hour session of SheepsXClothing which you can stream a video of here. He also plays in WristMeetRazor which is a killer band and will be reviewed tomorrow (July 18th) on this blog.

review by Jesse Mowery

NATIONALE were a short lived band from Athens, GA that played a simple yet powerful version of screamo influenced by 90's bands like Shotmaker and Sleepytime Trio. One of my old bands Karoshi played with them in 2009, back when you had to book shows through Myspace or email, and bands weren't as easily connected. It turned out to be what they were planning on being their second to last show, as they were playing one last show in their city before breaking up. Both my band and Nationale were bummed about it, because our cities were so close and we wished we'd discovered each other bands sooner. I don't think I listened to them before seeing them, because I was blown away. Their songs aren't too complex, yet hold much emotional weight and evolve as the song goes on. They got back together shortly in the summer of 2010 and recorded 4 songs that never got finished unfortunately. The demo and Living Season aren't too different sonically besides the production quality. They share 2 songs technically, "Dear Clyde" and "Abulia I and II", although the latter got switched out for "The Saviour" at some point. I don't have the tour tape songs, but the demo and Living Season are included, and should be listened to stat. Also check out Matt's current band King Slender, because they rule.

http://www90.zippyshare.com/v/hc2gOu4w/file.html
...and updates

I'm on my way to a cottage with my family for a week so I'll be MIA for the most part. ZBR Fest was a huge success. A million thanks to everyone involved, especially the bands and those who attended. The Мятеж European tour was botched completely and didn't happen but we were able to snag a bit of trip out of it. Because of the move to New Zealand on July 31st, 2017, Zegema Beach Records released Zampler #9 already which you can listen and download here. In August of 2017 we will release Zampler #10 which will be a "best of" from the first 80 releases that we did while residing in Canada.

And lastly, here's the tracklisting for OMSB mix#6 that was reviewed in June. Thanks to Jesse Mowery for pulling off half of these reviews.

1) WORST DAYS - A Previous Knowledge of Self Destruction

2) QUASAR - À la vie

5) NATIONALE - En La Vida Hay Golpes Tan Fuertes (coming soon)

As always, on or around the 1st of every month, I will be posting a ZIP file with songs for the upcoming month with ALL specifics deleted from the tags, so unless you already know the band, there is NO information regarding each track.

During the following month, I will post reviews for those bands and link the tracks to the review so you can associate the two together. This way you can listen to a new song/band and have little-to-no bias. Below, I have re-posted the July mp3 mix that is used for this month's reviews.

The new OMSB mp3 Mix #8 is 70% Dave and 30% Jesse Mowery and includes 10 killer tracks, such as:
*-* a member of Amanda Woodward's current/amazing project
*-* something that could be labeled as chaos-core, if it were a genre
*-* Drive Like Jehu meets Daniel Striped Tiger
*-* NEW ZEALAND!
*-* a band that released on Level Plane!!!

Any bands/labels that are interested in having their stuff reviewed, please email zegemabeachrecords@gmail.com: with "Open Mind Saturated Brain" as the subject. Please keep in mind that I don't review everything, just what jives with the blog. I will, however, listen to everything you send me. I would recommend emailing with an idea for a song/album premiere 2 months prior to that song/album release date for a much stronger chance at being reviewed on this blog. Bands that have already had their discography reviewed can also submit new albums for review if they include song/album premieres.

***ZEGEMA BEACH RECORDS Fest Day #1***

ZEGEMA BEACH RECORDS Fest
Show #1 / Friday June 2nd, 2017

RESPIRE / THE ULTIMATE SCREAMO BAND / COMMUOVERE / MASSA NERA / TERRY GREEN / SARIN / GROWING FINS

After a pretty quiet night in regards to attendance on June 1st (I found out we were competing for attendees with a Daughters show!) we here at ZBR got ready for the first official day of Zegema Beach Records bands plus a few additional friends. Before the first band even started we had a ton of people pour through the doors to show support for the bands and I was in goddamn heaven. Once the show started the feeling, positivity and energy in the room were palpable.

You can also find a plethora of phenomenally filmed videos by Brandon Douglas who also tapped into the mixer with vocals for videos that sound much better than the ones I filmed. I have linked his videos as *BD* after my videos.

GROWING FINS
This was the final band added to the fest after Coma Regalia had to drop due to passport issues. The band is local to Toronto and play a mathy mix of twinkly emo and hardcore with two primary vocalists, and the drummer and bassist sprinkling additional singing throughout. I would compare their style to I Love Your Lifestyle but with more screaming and less vocal melodies, as well as spreading out the instrumentals to cover more soft and heavy sections, with an obvious leaning towards the heavier. The band got really into the set and eventually the guitarist (Ben) on the right lay down his guitar and just started singing into the mic, with Connor jumping around in the centre. I am extremely thankful that Connor (guitar/vocals) got in touch with me about playing because they were great and D-Beatstro was pretty packed right from the get-go. They recently went on a short Canada stint with fellow comrades Terry Green, who played fifth this night and can be viewed further below in this post. GROWING FINS recently released 'Oakcrest' in late 2016.

SARIN
I fucking love SARIN. The six-piece (keyboardist hidden in the videos) also hail from Toronto/Brampton and have been on my radar ever since I heard their previous EP ‘Burial Dream’ and subsequently asked them to play The World That Summer’s split cassette release show back in April of 2016. On July 25th, 2017 the band will be releasing their debut 12”LP ‘Darker Lakes’ on my label Zegema Beach Records in conjunction with Arkan Records, Dead Punx Records, RIP In Peace Records and Dingleberry Records. They have released a music video and digital stream for two songs from the forthcoming record including “Ice Wrought” (video linked here) and “Amber Guide” (song/post linked here). Their obvious Isis influence has been honed over the past two years and with new members they sound better than ever. I recorded their down-tuned, new version of “As Well As the Body” from their ‘Burial Dream’EP and the instrumental “Embers Circling Downward” from the forthcoming 12”. Both guitarists and the gang are always very fun to watch live but they definitely had additional energy this show with Dave (my very good friend/guitars/vocals) looking downright menacing and letting the driving, epic sound fuel his imposing and intense movements around the floor. By far the best set I’ve ever seen them play mixed with beautifully balanced work by the sound tech Forest at D-Beatstro you’d be silly not to jam these two videos, especially the huge “Embers Circling Downward” that are rooted and led by Brett’s 80s horror synths (think any John Carpenter movie). I should also state that I am very honoured to be the record label taking the lead on ‘Darker Lakes’ because it’s fucking fantastic, with six incredible songs, beautiful artwork and snazzy blue vinyl.

COMMUOVERE
Let’s be real, since COMMUOVERE played that show (linked here) back in April of 2017 with La Luna and Foxmoulder at D-Beatstro, Toronto (and a lot of the internet, too) has been salivating over this Quebec band. The spastic, screamy three-piece doesn’t even need a bassist and they come off sounding like either dreamy emo or caustic emo-violence, depending on the song. Gabriel (drums) and Jean-Christophe (guitar) both played in Lonely Animals, another, now defunct, screamo band that had the honour of playing the only Crydome show in existence back in December of 2014 (linked here) but COMMUOVERE takes their awesomeness to new heights. The band is extremely passionate while playing and all three members handle screaming duties at one point or another along with Marie (vocals) that creates a endless web of cathartic, controlled chaos. The band recently released their latest three-song cassette titled ‘Du besoin de disparaître de soi’ (which you can pick up here) and hinted during their April Toronto show that they were writing for an upcoming LP that I was sure to add my name to the label hat assuming that they want help from Zegema Beach Records. If you haven’t heard this band yet or you’ve just been fast asleep, I’d recommend checking them out asap as they are blowing up quick. My highlight of their set? Marie not getting dubbed by Jean-Christophe into the wall mid-set like the last D-Beatstro show ;)

THE ULTIMATE SCREAMO BAND
Let’s start with the obvious. THE ULTIMATE SCREAMO BAND is one you likely have a predisposition for loving or hating, and the hate seems to stem from the band name, which is fucking ridiculous. The point of the band name was a joke, as THE ULTIMATE SCREAMO BAND began as Arch’s solo project and only recently morphed into a full band for live settings. I’ll repeat that, solo-fucking-project. It’s a joke. Arch is a wonderful human being who started creating Orchid influenced screamo back in 2015 with the release of the ‘La saison du champignon’ on EP via a run of just 70 7”s (I’ve got like two left, so pick one up asap here). I managed to capture the entire set in a string of 8 videos all linked below, spanning the first EP and the second release, a split 7” with Lora from the Ukraine. The set was extremely intense, tight and happened to include Arch downing a full jar of kalamata olives between songs. Alex from the now defunct post-hardcore/post-metal/screamo band Nous Étions played guitar and a fill-in drummer Robin played fantastically to create a whirlwind of noisy, intense screamo/emo-violence that also included one instrumental jam. Man, I fucking love THE ULTIMATE SCREAMO BAND and hope to help release literally everything he/they do in the future.

TERRY GREEN
TERRY GREEN are my boys. I love the music. I love the band. I love the people in the band. I even love their significant others (Andie Bee, I’m looking in your direction). Along with the Sarin 12”LP coming out soon, the TERRY GREEN ‘LP’ 12” will be released shortly thereafter on Zegema Beach Records, RIP In Peace Records, Zilp Zalp Records and UpWind Productions. I would expect the full thing to be streaming in August with an official release date later that month. The six songs housed on the 12” have been perfected over the past three years and are a testament to TERRY’s love of emo, screamo, post-hardcore, grind (although not very obvious) and even black metal. They had to cut one song due to time this night, but they tore through tracks “I”, “II”, “III” and “IV” with their always energetic jumping around, flailing, screaming and bloody hands (Matt!). I would call them screamo/post-hardcore but TERRY is adamant that they are a post-hardcore band who screams.  Considering I’ve sold them a ton of screamo stuff from ZBR and the distro I’ve got to include that word once, despite Adrian’s likely headshake at reading this. In addition to filming “I”, “III” and “IV” (aka Instant Relief) which you can view below, I have been lucky enough to premiere two of their songs on the most recent Zamplers, with “I” being on #8 ‘I’m Doing My Part’ (linked here) and “II” most recently on ‘You Don’t Approve? Well, Too Bad’ (linked here). It was surreal and saddening to know that this was likely the last time I’ll see the band play in a live setting, as they have no scheduled shows before I leave and the 12” release party will definitely happen after I’m in New Zealand. No other band has played anywhere close to as many Zegema Beach Records shows as TERRY GREEN. I’m gonna miss you lot.

MASSA NERA
The sole U.S.A. band of the night was MASSA NERA, playing their first show outside of the country to this point – actually, their only show outside of their home state of New Jersey. A very interesting and important note to keep in mind (although you can’t tell in the slightest) is that a few months prior they lost their bassist and had the incredible Fred step in on bass, but also had their primary vocalist quit mere days before they left for this Fest. Their amazing set, as well as upcoming 12”LP, speaks volumes about their talent as most members are in their very early 20s. They play a beautifully intricate style of screamo in the vein of their primary influence Off Minor but manage to counteract the lack of jazz with complex layers of guitars as well as some behemoth moments, most notably from 1:30 to 2:30 in live video #4. I filmed their set in its entirety, with our boy Adam getting right up and cozy with the band and rocking the fuck out which inadvertently and unintentionally captured the minds of almost everyone in attendance. Tom Schlatter from What Of Us pointed out the next night that it was crazy to see a young, new band from New Jersey’s shirts been worn by a ton of audience and band members the following evening. The upcoming MASSA NERA 12” will be released in the coming months via Zegema Beach Records, Middle Man Records, Dingleberry Records and All Sounds Records. I’ve just seen the artwork by the stupidly talented Connie Sgarbossa of SeeYouSpaceCowboy fame for it and the entire thing is going to leave you with strained jaw and bruised chin after it drops to the floor.

RESPIRE
Closing out the night was my good friends in RESPIRE. This was a very special show as Emmett (trumpet) is no longer in the band due to prior commitments and other musical endeavours but he played nonetheless and the entire thing was breathtaking. Also present was their other trumpet player and newly added/permanent violinist Eslin which truly filled out the band’s sound. Their debut 12”LP ‘Gravity and Grace’ was heralded as album of the year by myself and many others. Not surprisingly the first press is pretty much sold out (with the exception of a few ZBR copies on both black and white vinyl) and a second press (on clear vinyl) has recently been released by Zegema Beach Records, Narshardaa Records and the band. I filmed the end of “Ascent”, all of “Waltz”, the medley of “Eternal Light” to “Eternal Nothing” and the closer “Evening. Melancholy II”, all of which are linked below, although I was unable to nab the intro to the never played “Nox” that is exclusive to the band’s ‘Demonstration’ EP. RESPIRE just finished a tour of Europe with their friends Love/Lust which I was lucky enough to watch and record in Munich, Germany while on my non-мятеж tour. In addition, we did a video interview in one of the rivers there with four members from RESPIRE and two from Love/Lust which will be posted in the coming months. My wife and I also won the screamo/post-hardcore/black metal lottery on June 5th as we were invited out to Toronto to see a RESPIRE practice, during which they played us three new songs that will likely be recorded in 2018. Without a doubt one of the best and most interesting bands to ever come out of Toronto. I love you all. <3 br="">
