I've been in contact with Team Glasses Records recently, as we first released Hanoi Traffic's tape with two different versions and the Australian label powerhouse also made exclusive tapes for Hawak's latest 12". Recently Adam sent me the new GIL CERRONE extended play for me to hear because I posted somewhere that I dug the previous, much older EP. And what happened? I was fucking floored. It's incredible screamo with heavy nods to mid-2000s bands Funeral Diner, Beau Navire, and Caught In The Fall. Honestly this is easily one of the best EPs of 2022. Every track is fire, and you can jam another song on the TGR bandcamp (linked here) as well as the song "Flat Earth" which is premiering right below!
(2022) GIL CERRONE "Flat Earth" (from 'Coronach')
The shortest and most straightforward song on the 'Coronach' EP is the second track "Flat Earth". The screaming is impeccable. The instrumentals weave a beautiful tapestry of chaos and beauty. The bass is nice and loud in the mix and really applies the gas/brake to each song. The guitars hover between frantic screamo and lush post-hardcore. The drums are the perfect backbone and also provide frills and fills for days. These all really intertwine after the one-minute mark for a frenzied barrage of wonderfully constructed screamo with soaring guitar notes to blend melody with the destruction. Honestly, what the shit...this is top-tier stuff.
