I was sent this band's debut EP a few months back and have finally gotten around to reviewing it. MELABUH KELABU hail from Indonesia and sound a bit similar (in a good way) with another Indonesian band I am smitten with, LKTDOV. This band plays a slightly melancholic but driving style of screamy hardcore on their only offering thus far, the 'Prahara' EP, released by Paska Records. It opens with the strongest track titled "Katastrofe" which delves directly into raw, unbridled screamo not unlike They Sleep We Live and Tröpical Ice Land. Slowing down before the one-minute mark, they abandon the emo-violence instrumentals for an epic post-hardcore/screamo second half that brings Viva Belgrado and LKTDOV to mind. "RE_Subject" dumps the intricate, layered screamo in favor of driving hardcore for the first 30 seconds, then spend the next 30 in chill mode before adding another 12 seconds of hardcore to the close. Title track "Prahara" is next, taking a nice, groovin', instrumental swing at a track that is more post-rock than it is hardcore. Closer "Bab III" is much more akin to the opener, but longer, and after the opening screamo whirlwind it takes a soothing approach reminding me of those Swedish post-hardcore junkies Vi Som Älskade Varandra Så Mycket.
This post's artist is from the January 2019 Mix. This is track #8.
