I first heard LACHANCE almost twelve ago when I picked up the 'Occam's Razor split 7"'. Their single song titled "The Ballad of Wailin' Willy" was a decent listen, but paled in comparison to the opposing side and subsequently LACHANCE receded into the depths of my memory. Enter Dave in 2016 on tour with The World That Summer. In Montreal we came across a fantastic shop that had, among other amazing records, the 'Nietzche Said There'd Be Days Like These Days Like These' 10". I remembered hearing them a decade prior and figured this release was pretty rare and might not be online. Not only was I correct, but holy fuck this 10" and the band in general are absolutely fantastic, as their blazing and hyperactive screamo dial up the sounds of Usurp SynapseDeers! and Mara'akate and run with that whirlwind blend chaotic, emotional hardcore. If you scroll down you'll see that I have uploaded all five songs to youtube.

The penultimate release was also the final LACHANCE record, aka the 'Nietzche Said There'd Be Days Like These Days Like These' 10". It opens with the unrelenting "Don't Bitch Me Out - Part Two" which hops around like a newborn fed a pound of sugar and can be likened to screamo such as A Company Of Heroes and Tunes For Bears To Dance To. "Smite the Smoters So Smote It Be" opens with a western movie sample before the heavy Usurp Synapse worship begins. By the two-minute mark we are lulled into a very false sense of security that slowly bounces and builds on itself like a chain reaction that triggers at 2:31 with discordant, panicked and screamy hardcore that is reminiscent of older acts such as Eyes Of Verotika, mid-late 2000s stuff akin to Deers! and newer bands like Ten Thousand Leagues. "The Beatles couldn't do it, so what the fuck - makes you think you can?" is only 54 seconds but packs that sucka to brim with fancy licks (10 seconds in) and screamy kicks (36 seconds) that mirror the maniacal sounds of Mara'akate. "My Life as a Villain" has an interesting intro, as well as some very noodley bits around one minute in that remind me of Mustaphamond and an ending that gets epic as fuck at 3:08. The closer "Dear God, I've Spontaneously Combusted" has wackadoo freakouts amidst . It should also be noted that four out of the five songs are pretty much five minutes in length so this is a very lengthy, as well as incredible, EP.
