I was first introduced to BRIGHT CALM BLUE via their split with To Dream of Autumn, because TDOA was Rats Into Robots' previous band. So, BRB contributed a demo version of the track, "A Tongue Taste of Taste" and I instantly fell in love. It sounded like a calm (ha! #1) and diluted version of Saetia, Four Hundred Years and Funeral Diner.

BRIGHT CALM BLUE had 2 distinct periods that were separated by a change in the vocal department. Personally, I think their early work with Ian Whitmore was ground-breaking - especially the 'Asymmetry Set' record. These releases have the band combining relatively equal amounts of driving indie, emo, hardcore, punk and screamo genres. On paper, this amalgamation of music may seem like it would sound discombobulated - but they nail it right on the head and weave that shit like a professional basket. A beautiful looking basket that is great for holding rocks. (ha! #2)

As I mentioned, following the amazing 'Asymmetry Set', the vocalist left the band. He was replaced by a singer who used a similar vocal delivery style, but was much more nasally. Combine that with more synths on their final release, 'A Direct Approach to Casual Conversation', and it was a passable endeavor.
