Oh shit I haven't posted in over two weeks. For shame. So here's a quickie discussing the debut five-track EP from this California four-piece that features Jack from Clay Birds and Kiowa on drums. I think the opener is the peak of the record, but all the songs have a personality, with "no crutch" beginning like an emo-violence song before sliding into epic noodles and groove, "cycle" exists as a 45-second romp through chugs and feedback, "as the glass shatters" is a dirty jam that really sinks its teeth in when it gets halfway through, and closer "grasp" is playful but constantly hints at a swelling darkness which is revealed and set loose on the listener at 1:25. Oh shit, look at me, I've skipped the opener. "malice" is fucking ace and utilizes some Maserati-esque guitar reverb across the midsection (before one helluva an ending), giving it a wicked posty feel that is an excellent side dish to the screamo main course. I would love if the band fleshed out this seesaw act more, as it really sets them apart from the crowd.
