I remember one of my friends posting about WRISTMEETRAZOR earlier in 2017 with a brief for fans of that listed .gif from god, Letters To Catalonia and Norma Jean, if my memory serves correct. I checked out the three-song demo immediately and was smitten. I contacted the band through bandcamp and asked if they needed help releasing anything in the future. The timing was perfect and the band replied, stating that they were recording 8 tracks for an upcoming LP, which we eventually hashed out as the 2x7"LP 'I Talk to God...But the Sky is Empty'. I thought it would be good to get at least one more label involved and Daniel of Time As A Color and the band Duct Hearts, from Germany, was very eager to hop on board. The band asked the ridiculously talented Connie Sgarbossa from SeeYouSpaceCowboy to draw up the art, which is fantastic. On December 7th, 2017 we premiered "De Nadie" on Invisible Oranges (linked here) and posted today is their exclusive interview with Idioteq (linked here). Featuring members of Thisismenotthinkingofyou, Moss Rose, Yuri and Alle, this ridiculous concoction of noisy emo-violence and grindcore will floor you with four tracks in less than as many minutes. KODOS released a demo earlier this year (linked here) on member Shaun's record label Adorno Records, with this new cassette EP titled 'You Can Weave the Loom or You Can Leave the Room' being put to 35 tapes, which you can purchase from the label's bandcamp page here. "(fla)mingomingomingo" begins with an eerie intro that leads into pulverizing palm mutes, breaks and dual screaming. There's also a music video for it and it's the only track to reach a minute.

(2017) KODOS - "I Am the Lizard Queen" (from 'You Can Weave the Loom Or You Can Leave the Room')

"I Am the Lizard Queen" wastes no time annihilating the listener in just 34 seconds with mind-bending drumming as well as erratic and scorching guitars. It's probably my favourite of the four and bears some resemblance to Lord Snow musically and Hedge Fund Trader vocally.

The self titled track is the darkest of the four songs, with a whirlwind beginning, a brief calm in the middle and finally goes full-tilt into the wormhole of emo-violence by the end.

(2017) KODOS - "Vincent Price's Orphan Powered Acrostics" (from 'You Can Weave the Loom Or You Can Leave the Room')

The closer "Vincent Price's Orphan Powered Acrostics" seems to rely a bit more heavily on Yasmin's vocals than Shaun's, although you'll find them both layering shrieks throughout the 54 seconds of cacophonous, extreme hardcore.

A few months back CHALK HANDS sent me their debut two-track EP called 'Burrows & Other Hideouts' and in a seemingly unrelated post about a month ago I reviewed Amber Daybreak - only to be told that the two bands have the same vocalist! After moving away from Belgium, Antoine rooted in the U.K. and joined CHALK HANDS. Their atmospheric and epic screamo post-hardcore with screamed/spoken vocals sounds akin to Shizune, Viva Belgrado and Monte Ida using lush, ambient and towering builds that climax not unlike Japanese greats Envy.

'Burrows & Other Hideouts' is an exceptional EP, but it's too short, goddamn it. Seriously though, if this was four songs it would probably have made my year-end list, but with two it's gonna be hard. That being said both tracks together almost reach the 10-minute mark so perhaps I should shut my stupid trap. Opener "Burrows" begins quite chill and picks up just before 1:30 with an amazingly epic guitar lead and subsequent descent into dark, heaving post-hardcore. It relaxes soon after, but by 2:40 a nice, dominant guitar solo takes hold and leads the song to its climax at 3:25. I think Shizune and Sed Non Satiata are excellent anchor points, although CHALK HANDS expands on that with a further, melodic extreme coupled with spacey riffs that almost bring to mind Yarostan and 'The Satellite Years'-era Hopesfall. "Arms" is an epic, sweeping track that brings to mind Envy sprinkled with Young Mountain. A sweet, driving intro transitions as the first minute ends with a short and fast bit with vocals, before settling back down again with swirling riffs and expansive audio waves. It is slow in its subsequent ascent, but at 3:45 you are rewarded with a towering close to both the song and the release.

I know CHALK HANDS plan on releasing new material in early 2018, and regardless of the amount of songs that end up coming out, there's no doubt that I'll be lapping it up.
